Senior year can be very frustrating but exciting at the same time. It is a time when you should celebrate your accomplishments, but it’s also a time when you have to work hard to prepare for your future. One way to be prepared is to recognize how college studies will differ from high school studies. The other way to prepare is to tie up loose ends when it comes to college and financial aid applications. Here are some crucial steps to making sure everything is in order when you graduate.

1.) Continue to maintain high grades and take challenging courses that will prepare you for college. The courses will help you in the future.

2.) Attend college fairs in your area.

3.) Choose the top four schools or colleges that you would like to attend. Be careful of the deadlines.

4.) Complete the financial aid application process.

5.) In October, take the ACT or SAT Test. Only take the exam if you are not satisfied with the score or have not taken the exam at all.

6.) By early spring, you should have acceptance letters from colleges and make your final decision of what college you would like to attend. If you do not have an acceptance letter, contact the college admissions office.

7.) Respond to your financial aid award letters and make sure that everything is correct on the student aid report.

8.) Look into taking Advanced Placement Examinations or College Level Entry Program (CLEP). High school students can choose to take a CLEP exam and gain even more college credits using the knowledge they gained in the AP course or other rigorous course work taken during high school.

9.) Get a job. Put some money away before you go to college to help with expenses.

10.) Make a list of items needed before going away to college.

CLEP (college level exam placement) test preparation can be helpful for students about to take the CLEP examination. This examination is designed to test students on the knowledge they have acquired outside of a college classroom. This can refer to independent studies and advanced high school courses undertaken, on-the-job training, or knowledge gained from cultural pursuits and volunteer activities.

The vast majority of candidates about to take the CLEP exam study for it independently. If you are worried about how good your exam study skills are, you should sit down and develop a full study plan, but for many this will not be necessary as a quick review of the material is often all that is needed for sufficient preparation prior to the exam.

You should be able to consult textbooks and other materials at the college you are hoping to attend. Lots of textbooks have companion websites full of additional information and resources. There are also many free resources available online to help you with your exam preparation.

It is important to read the exam description carefully so that you can match the knowledge and skills required to any exam preparation resources you are contemplating using. Test preparation materials can be purchased from College Boards and other publishers. Use sample questions to ascertain which areas are your weak spot and use college text books to study these areas.

Go through your text books and highlight the key points you need to remember. Review these again prior to the test to refresh your memory. Little and often is the key with exam preparation. That way you are more likely to retain the relevant information.

Brushing up on your exam study skills will give you some extra confidence before you have to take the CLEP test. Make sure you have familiarized yourself with the format of the types of questions you are likely to face. You might be used to taking multiple choice questions, but perhaps essay questions are not something you are comfortable with. Practice makes perfect—make sure you do lots of timed practice questions so that you are familiar with how much you can write in a set time.

CLEP (college level exam placement) test preparation is not rocket science. Like any test or examination, how successful you are will come down to your exam study skills and how adequately you prepare. Use your time wisely and you can expect to do well.

Whether you are a student making the transition from high school to university or a student who is returning to school after either working or taking time off from school, chances are that you are going to want to apply for some form of financial aid through your institution of higher learning. Financial aid is available for all students; traditional, non-traditional, undergraduate, and graduate students.

You might think that getting financial aid is a simple as asking for it, but the truth is that the financial aid process is far more complex than that. To get answers to all of your financial aid questions, you have to understand what is involved. Yes, your school is a part of the process but there is a lot more to it. One thing that you must know is that you will need to fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year that you attend college and want to benefit from student aid.

You will need to understand when the FAFSA deadline is, how to fill in the FAFSA worksheet, and how to estimate how much financial aid you will need or be eligible for. FAFSA covers not only federal programs but also a majority of the local and state programs as well. There are many financial aid calculators.

In fact, there is even a FAFSA estimator and an in depth question and answers section on this site to assist you in all of your FAFSA questions. Navigating college financial aid information can be challenging to say the least, but it can be done and you can benefit from the many grants, loans, and federal student aid programs which exist under the FAFSA program. If you are looking for FAFSA help, you’ve come to the right place.

It’s the modern day dream of every high school athlete to find themselves being courted, dined, and ultimately recruited by a major college or university. High school athletes who are noticed by the major colleges and universities can get their entire education paid for, start their professional careers, and earn recognition, fame, and even fortune.

High school recruiting is a big business and the colleges and universities make huge amounts of money from their athletic programs through grants, donations, tickets, licensing, and merchandise. With all that money at stake you can be sure that the colleges are sending out scouts to find the best of the best in high school football, high school volleyball, high school basketball, high school baseball, and other major educational institution sporting programs.

High school football recruiting is probably the most well known. Scouts sit in the stands and watch for players with star talent and abilities. University coaches look at high school basketball scores to find the next starting forward and scour the high school baseball rankings to see who the next university all start will be. The competition is fierce for college athletic scholarships, but you can take yourself out of the race by getting recruited. Let the colleges and universities compete for you instead of you competing for their athletic scholarships. There are a few ways to get noticed by recruiters.

First of all, always make sure you play with 200%. If you are playing at your best you will get noticed. Next, make sure that you act as your own press agent. Write press releases, make contact with reporters, and be sure to put yourself in front of the cameras. Finally, make sure your grades are up to snuff. If you don’t graduate, you can’t be recruited.

Anyone who has attended college or university knows that one of the biggest challenges – financially speaking – is buying the textbooks that you are required to have for classes. Textbooks are a major expense for college students and usually there isn’t any way around buying the books because the professors require them and if you don’t have them, your chances of passing the final exams are pretty slim.

In fact though, you don’t have to break the bank in order to buy your college or university textbooks. Sometimes you can find the cheapest textbook in the university bookstore, but usually, that is just not the case.

While there are all manner of ways to get textbooks for cheap, you want to be sure that you have the latest edition, that the textbook isn’t missing any pages or so marked up that you can’t use it for reading or study, and that you can either keep the textbook as a reference or resell it for a minimal loss (or a profit) at the end of the term.

It used to be that you could sometimes use the copies of textbooks in the libraries at colleges or universities, but these days it’s hard to find the books since savvy students check them out well in advance of the classes or sometimes the professors themselves are using the library copies.

If you want to find cheap college books be sure to check online and to also look at the bookstores of nearby colleges and universities. The same textbook can often be found at a discount at a neighboring institution.

If you want to find the cheapest textbook look at used book sites, online classified ads, and don’t forget to check the message boards at your university!
